Monica & Harrison arrived bright and early on Sunday to Milwaukee direct from Oakland at 5:30am. After some hazy hugs we all crashed back out for a few hours, then when right to work. Before they arrived we had collected quite a bit of materials through our open call to the community, but more supplies were needed. Right away Monica, Harrison and our mutual friend Sean set out to hunt & gather more treasures gathered street side & in Milwaukee thrift stores.

Working on a week long installation like this is such an amazing experience. There are so many variables to consider and as the curator having trust in your artist is a part of the process. Personally, Monica is the perfect person for me to work with on an unplanned install since I believe her work is consistently beautiful down to the most minor detail.
Here are some photos so far. We are on hour 11 of day two- the opening is 4 days away and everyone is full speed ahead after a quick refuel of dinner. The night spring temperature has dropped to below 40 and a temporary shop is in full swing outside in our lot. Aaron is cutting shapes. Harrison is patiently talking through Monica's vision with her step by step. It's been awesome to watch them work together since they have years of massive projects completed side by side. And Sean continues to lend his skills assembling pieces that Monica picks out of the piles and piles of trash.
I am and will continue to do what I do best- document the process & stay on top of who needs what. Hopefully my excitement for how amazing this is will translate and you will want to see this plain room unfold into a magical environment. It is going to be a treat. I'll do my best to capture the energy for those of you not able to make it to Milwaukee before July 31st and the rest of you, well we will see you Friday for the opening celebration, if not soon after.
